How To Choose The Right Air Compressor For Your Pneumatic Tools
The capacity of the air compressor is determined by the total air consumption of the pneumatic tools to be used. The total air consumption allows the air consumption of each tool to be calculated by multiplying the number of tools, but most of them can only be lowered and converted at the same time. So please refer to the capacity of the air compressor required for "simultaneous conversion to air consumption"
Number of tools used | Simultaneous operation air consumption rate |
---|---|
1~5 | 1.0 |
6~10 | 0.8 |
11~20 | 0.7 |
21~30 | 0.6 |
31~50 | 0.5 |
51~100 | 0.4 |
Example: To obtain 1000 l / min of air (at an air pressure of 6.3kg / cm2 / 90psi), approximately 7.5 kilowatts (Kw) of electricity are required. There are two situations for the use of pneumatic tools: continuous operation like a grinder or Intermittent operation like a torque wrench, continuous operation condition coefficient S value is "1", intermittent operation condition coefficient value S is "0.5"
Note: Intermittent operation means that the operation is terminated within one minute. In the case of a torque wrench, the operation time is 0.5 to 5 seconds. Therefore, the capacity of the air compressor can be calculated by the following formula
- QT= 7.5 * TA * K * S / 1000 + X
- QT=Kilowatts output by electric motor of air compressor TA= Total air consumption
- 7.5Kw = Air delivery 1000 l/min (6.3kg/cm2/90 psi)
- K=Simultaneous operation air consumption rate
- S=Coefficient for each operating condition (continuous operation = 1, intermittent operation = 0.5)
- X = loss (such as air leakage)
An example of how to calculate the motor output of an air compressor
Take pneumatic grinder as an example
Item | Quantity | Air Consumption per Tool l/min | |
---|---|---|---|
AT-7036 | 6 | Total 10 tools | 212 |
AT-7041 | 4 | 467 |
- TA(Total Air Consumption)=6*212 + 4*467 = 3140 (l/min)
- K(Simultaneous operation air consumption rate) = 0.8 S(Coefficient for each operating condition)=1
- QT(Output of electric motor of air compressor)= 7.5 * 3140 * 0.8 * 1 / 1000 = 18.84(Kw)+X(Loss)
Take a torque wrench as an example
Item | Quantity | Air Consumption per Tool l/min | |
---|---|---|---|
AT-5068 | 4 | Total 10 tools | 425 |
AT-5044 | 6 | 340 |
- TA(Total Air Consumption)=4*425 + 6*340 = 3740 (l/min)
- K(Simultaneous operation air consumption rate) = 0.8 S(Coefficient for each operating condition)=0.5
- QT(Output of electric motor of air compressor)= 7.5 * 3740 * 0.8 * 0.5 / 1000 = 11.22(Kw)+X(Loss)
※Users need to consider additional capacity to cope with the consumption caused by tool and compressor degradation of the air compressor capacity (QT) mentioned above.
